چکیده

Abstract: Test cross population of Deli dura parents namely; NIFOR ex UP Malaya, NIFOR ex Serdang Avenue, Ulu Remis Deli ex Sabah, NIFOR ex Serdang Avenue x La Me and Equador Deli were evaluated for bunch yield and fruit quality characters in rainforest ecology of Nigeria. The objective of the experiment is to select new Deli dura parents for inclusion in the next cycle of NIFOR oil palm breeding programme. The results showed that the progenies from the Equador Deli parent had the highest bunch yield due to the complementation of number of harvested bunch and average bunch weight. The reverse was however, the case with the progenies from NIFOR ex UP Malaya parent despite the excellent fruit quality characters. The existence of transgressive segregants in some of the progenies is an indication that selection would be effective in the improvement of these quantitative traits. Therefore, new parents must be limited to recombination of individuals of similar mean bunch yield and fruit quality to build up favourable genes for each component.

Genetic Performance and General Combining Ability of Oil Palm Deli dura x AVROS pisifera Tested on Inland Soils

The performance of 11 oil palm AVROS (Algemene Vereniging van Rubberplanters ter Oostkust van Sumatra) pisiferas was evaluated based on their 40 dura x pisifera (DxP) progenies tested on inland soils, predominantly of Serdang Series. Fresh fruit bunch (FFB) yield of each pisiferas ranged from 121.93 to 143.9 kg palm⁻¹ yr⁻¹ with trial mean of 131.62 kg palm⁻¹ yr⁻¹. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) s...

Variability and performance evaluation of introgressed Nigerian dura x Deli dura oil palm progenies.

Twelve introgressed oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) progenies of Nigerian dura x Deli dura were evaluated for bunch yield, yield attributes, bunch quality components and vegetative characters at the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Research Station, in Keratong, Pahang, Malaysia. Analysis of variance revealed significant to highly significant genotypic differences, indicating sufficient genetic variabilit...

Genome-wide association study identifies three key loci for high mesocarp oil content in perennial crop oil palm

GWAS in out-crossing perennial crops is typically limited by insufficient marker density to account for population diversity and effects of population structure resulting in high false positive rates. The perennial crop oil palm is the most productive oil crop. We performed GWAS for oil-to-dry-mesocarp content (O/DM) on 2,045 genotyped tenera palms using 200K SNPs that were selected based on th...

Stability analysis of oil yield in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) progenies in different environments.

We evaluated 38 dura x pisifera (DP) oil palm progenies in four locations in Malaysia for genotype by environment interaction and genotypic stability studies. The DP progenies derived from crosses between pisifera palms of AVROS, Serdang S27B, Serdang 29/36, and Lever Cameroon were chosen to be the males' parent and Deli dura palms designated as females' parent. All the locations differed in te...

Origin and Geographic Distribution Oil palm is native to Africa and it is assumed that speciation took place in that continent. However since all related species classifi ed in the subfamily Cocoideae have a South American origin (except perhaps the coconut, Cocos nucifera), the archetypal ancestor may have been indigenous to the Americas. Oil palm occurs in palm groves throughout the tropical ...
